Cast: Carolyn Farina, Edward Clements, Chris Eigeman, Taylor Nichols, Alison Parisi, Dylan Hundley, Bryan Leder, Isabel Gillies, Will Kempe, Ellia Thompson. Screenplay: Whit Stillman. Cinematography: John Thomas. Film editing: Christopher Tellefsen. Costume design: Mary Jane Fort. Music: Tom Judson, Mark Suozzo.
Twenty-six years after Metropolitan, his debut film, Whit Stillman made one of the best Jane Austen movies ever, his adaptation of her unpublished epistolary novel Lady Susan, which he retitled (borrowing and slightly altering the title of another unpublished Austin novel) Love & Friendship. It's a witty look at the manners and mores of an insular privileged class, which almost exactly describes Metropolitan as well. Instead of Regency gentry, the privileged class in Stillman's first film consists of young Manhattan preppies, all of them well-educated, many of them wealthy, as they make the rounds of parties during debutante season. It's not surprising, too, that Jane Austen makes her own presence known in this scene, through conversations between Tom Townsend and the young woman he finds himself escorting through these parties, Audrey Rouget. She's a lover of Austen's novels who is shocked to find, first, that Tom thinks Mansfield Park is Austen's worst book and, second, that he's never read it or any other novel by her, but is just echoing the criticism by Lionel Trilling: "I don't read novels," he says. "I prefer good literary criticism. That way you get both the novelist's ideas as well as the critic's thinking." Metropolitan floats along through the debutante season as Tom, Audrey, and their friends skim the surface of ideas about class and society and sex in their blithe, unformed way. Nothing really happens in the movie, though Audrey develops a crush on Tom to which he remains mostly oblivious until he finally sets out to "rescue" her from the clutches of the film's villain, Rick Von Slonecker, whom the cynical Nick Smith describes as "tall, rich, good looking, stupid, dishonest, conceited, a bully, drunk, and thief, an egomaniac, and probably psychotic. In short, highly attractive to women." Metropolitan has some rough edges -- its young, inexperienced cast, many of them making their film debuts, are sometimes not quite up to making polished delivery of Stillman's lines -- but it's mostly a delight.

Alonso also has 40 home runs alongside HOF legend
Alonso also has 40 home runs alongside HOF legend
Pete Alonso (29, New York Mets) has conquered the 40-homer mark of the season.
Alonso started as the fourth batter and first baseman in the home game against the Seattle Mariners in City Field, New York, on the 4th (Korea Standard Time), leading his team to a 6-3 victory with three hits (two home runs) and four RBIs in four at-bats.
It was more like a one-man show. Alonso hit a timely RBI with two outs and a runner on first base in the bottom of the first inning when he faced 0-0. He then hit his 40th home run of the season in the bottom of the third inning with a 2-0 lead over the left fence to a line drive. Seattle right-hander George Kirby's fourth curve was pulled to lead to a 385-foot (117.3m) long drive. Alonso is the third player to surpass 40 home runs this season after Shohei Otani (LA Angels) and Matt Olson (Atlanta Braves, 44 home runs). Kyle Schwaber (Philadelphia Phillies, 39) and Mookie Betts (LA Dodgers, 38) also approached 40 home runs, but Alonso's bat turned fiercely first.
Alonso, who made his big league debut in 2019, hit 40 home runs in his third season following 2019 (53 home runs) and 2022 (40 home runs). MLB Dotcom, the official website of Major League Baseball, said, "The only big leaguers who recorded 40 home runs three times in the first five seasons were Ralph Keiner, Eddie Matthews, Albert Pujols, and Ryan Howard. Two of them (Kainer, Matthews) entered the Hall of Fame (HOF) and the third player (Puhols) will soon enter, he said, shedding light on Alonso's record.
Alonso's bet didn't stop in the seventh inning. Seattle right-hander Trent Thornton hit his third four-seam fastball in the seventh inning with one out and no runner in the seventh inning, which was chased 5-3, and crossed the left-center fence. The distance was measured at 397 feet (121 meters). The 187th home run of his career. MLB.Com ranks Alonso fifth in the Mets' history home run after Darryl Strawberry (252), David Wright, Mike Piazza, and Howard Johnson. If Alonso stays in Flushing (Mets) for a long time, it is almost certain that he will become the Mets' all-time home run king in early 2025.
Alonso joined the Mets in the second round of the 2016 rookie draft, 64th overall. He exploded 53 home runs (120 RBIs) in 2019, breaking the record for the most home runs (52) in a season of MLB rookies achieved by Aaron Judge (New York Yankees) in 2017, becoming the NL Rookie of the Year. That year, Cody Bellinger (then LA Dodgers) set a new record of 39 home runs for NL rookies in 2017, and surpassed the single-season Mets record of 41 held by Todd Hundley in 1996 and Carlos Beltran in 2006. His career record is .254 with 187 home runs and 480 RBIs.

Among slaveholders, the slave market existed in a different place and time. Far from being ever-present in cities like New Orleans, the slave market was a quarantined space, legally bounded by high walls to "prevent them from being seen from the street" and banned from many neighborhoods throughout the antebellum period. The state of Louisiana outlawed the trade entirely during the period of panic that followed Nat Turner's 1831 rebellion, and the city of New Orleans (like cities across the South) taxed it at the same high rate as pawn shops, cock pits, and race tracks. Like the business they conducted, slave traders were marginalized, through rhetoric more than regulation: "Southern Shy-lock", "Southern Yankee," and "Negro Jockey" they were called, the sorts of insults that marked them as figurative outcasts from slaveholding society. When Daniel Hundley sat down to write the description of slave traders that would be included in his proslavery account, Social Relations in Our Southern States (186), he described the slave traders as a caste apart and assumed that they would be readily identifiable to even the most casual observer. In his description, slave traders looked almost as different from other southern whites as slaves did. "The miserly Negro Trader," Hundley assured his readers, "is outwardly a coarse, ill-bred person, provincial in speech and manners, with a cross-looking phiz, a whiskey tinctured nose, cold hard-looking eyes, a dirty tobacco-stained mouth, and shabby dress." You knew them when you saw them.

CREATOR CLASH BOXING EVENT DEBUT MAKES HISTORY WITH SOLD OUT ARENA AND OVER 100K PAY-PER-VIEWS AND COUNTING

The SOLD OUT event saw some of the biggest digital creators going toe-to-toe for charity
TAMPA, FL (May 14, 2022) – In front of a raucous, sold out crowd at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida, and also online at Moment House, the next evolution in influencer boxing took place. Creator Clash, created and produced by iDubbbz, in collaboration with Real Good Touring and co-creator Mike Leanardi, hosted an exciting night of boxing with some of the biggest digital creators facing off in the squared circle in pseudo exhibition bouts.
In the night's main event, Ian "iDubbbz" Washburn took on Mike "Dr. Mike" Varshavski. The fight went the full five-round distance, with the judges awarding the fighting Doctor the victory with scores of 50-45 twice and 49-47.
At times, the sold out crowd of fans in attendance was earsplitting, hanging on to every punch each participant threw.
In the five-round heavyweight co-main event, Harley Morenstein of Epic Meal Time stepped in the ring against Arin Hanson of Game Grumps. After two dominant rounds in which he imposed his size on Hanson, Morenstein got the technical knockout victory.
Real estate agent and investor Graham Stephan faced off against YouTuber and professional Fortnite player Michael Reeves in a five-round lightweight match. In the second round, Reeves landed three or four straight hands in a row that backed up Stephan to the ropes forcing the referee to halt the bout. The fight was stopped at the 1:48 mark of the second round.
The cruiserweight proceedings carried on with Brett "Hundar" Hundley of Muscle Party fighting Ab "Starkilla" Ayad of the H3 Podcast. Both creators took their time getting to the action in one of the more tactical fights of the night. Hundley was able to get the stoppage victory in the fifth round after the referee stopped the fight with 50 seconds remaining.
The ladies took center stage with Haley "Yodeling Haley" Sharpe battling Justa Minx in a junior middleweight bout. Minx and Haley went to war, trading bombs in each round. In the fourth round, after some clean right hands were landed in a row from Minx, the referee stopped the fight with just 50 seconds left.
In a five-round cruiserweight bout, Austalia's Alex Apollonov of "I Did A Thing," took on The Odd 1s Out Robert James Rallison. Apollonov made quick work of Rallison as he ate a series of right hands and jabs. The fight was stopped at the 1:24 mark of the first round.
In the first of two heavyweight bouts, Internet Comment Etiquette's Erik Hoffstad fought San Francisco’s DJ Welch. The California native scored multiple knockdowns in the first and second rounds en route to scoring a technical knockout. At the end of round two, the fight was stopped at the 2:00 mark.
The cruiserweight action continued with Ryan Magee of comedy-duo SuperMega facing off against Alex Ernst. After a series of exchanges, Ernst landed a right hand that sent Magee down to the canvas in the fourth round. The bout went the full distance, with the judges awarding Ernst a unanimous decision victory.
Kicking off the clash of the creators was Matt Watson of SuperMega facing off against Nathan "Dad" Barnett in a five-round middleweight match. “Dad” wasted no time and immediately began throwing power punches landing nearly every punch he threw. After a minute of nonstop blows, the referee halted the bout in the first round.
The amount raised for charity, which included the American Heart Association, The Alzheimer's Association and the Healing Horse Therapy Center, was astounding thanks to ticket sales, and once calculated, will be announced at a later date.

[We all acted quickly and as a well-ironed team. Don't get me wrong, we always worked perfectly as a team, but this time it felt personal. This was one of our own needing the medical attention, so we couldn't make room for mistakes. Not when Billie's life was on the line currently. I gave a nod of agreement as Devon's assessment; knowing we'd need to get her prepped and into the OR sooner rather than later in order to treat these internal bleeds] "Nurse Hundley, could you prep her for surgery while I call for an OR?" [Bell stated before standing in front of me; lowering his hand onto my shoulders to add] "I will take great care of her. She'll be in more than capable hands." [Years ago I would have fought like hell to keep Bell as far away from this surgery as humanly possible. Through the years though we had come to an understanding with each other, and over time, we even became friends. My point being, at this moment, there was nobody I trusted more to save Billie] I know. There's nobody I trust more in that OR than you. [I assured him before adding] I'm watching from the gallery though. [I added to which Bell nodded in response before he turned to Devon to tell him he was bringing Leela into the OR with him. At that my eyes shifted back to Billie. Just in time to see her eyes open as she muttered out the words "He" and "Here" before her eyes immediately shut once more] Billie? Billie, can you hear me? [I called out to her. I didn't have any idea what she meant now, but that was normal for a head injury. I silently told myself as I finished stitching up her head wound as best as I could while Hundley prepped her for surgery. Before long she was ready to be transported to the OR; prompting me to walk along with the gurney as the transport team took her toward the OR. It was in that moment that her words in the examination room made sense. "He.... here." Porter. Anger filling me as I saw him in the hallway while we made route toward the OR elevator. Did he cause this? Was he the reason she fell? I wondered in building disdain toward this prick. Mark my words, if Billie wasn't headed into surgery right at this moment, I would have stopped to exchange some words with him... If not worse. Billie was my first priority at the moment though, so giving Porter hell would need to wait. I silently reminded myself as the elevator door closed and we made way toward the OR floor]
Continued.
@tightensthebolt
Feeling small almost broken. It had been years since Billie had let her fall apart from that night. The night she lost a piece of herself. A night she had stopped trusting men and relationships. Not to say Billie didn’t spend time with men since she was 13 because that was a lie. She slept with men that wanted no strings, that were one night stands. She built herself up, she put herself onto a pedestal because she wanted to protect herself. Two dreadful days in her life; the day she found out she had been taken advantage of by Porter and that same day she found out she was pregnant. The other was a vague memory of holding her son for the first and last time before she let him go.
A toll she now carried with her, all the demons she hint to be the surgeon she was. Numbness, emotionless it’s who she was. To avoid being hurt. But the looming truth of Porter his crimes sitting in the backburner it now haunted her. Billie had to consider Trevor which is why she had stayed silent, AJ had warned her the birdy in her ear to let her know her son wanted to find his dad; and she lied. She felt helpless even now as she felt on edge. She felt Conrad’s syspathic gaze, it was sweet he didn’t try to tell her he understood, instead he fought his own anger urges; the tightness of the line veins on his forehead; on his neck said it for him. Instead he was just a friend; someone she could lean on. A gentle smile a real one lifted to her brims as she pushed her coffee into her hand. She was preoccupied enough to reject coffee which was the indication Billie was far from okay.
“ Thank you, for being an ear, for not telling me you understood. I don’t want to feel broken. I’m better than this.” Brokenness written in her voice when it cracked. She hated being vulnerable so she was almost relieved when Conrad changed the topic to his debate on career moves. Billie offered a gentle smile as she lifted herself onto her feet. Forgotten coffee had fallen to the trash as hands fell to her sides. She listened intently to Conrad speak; she understood. She did. Because since Nic; he never wanted GiGi to be without a parent or feel abandoned it was part of the why he went to a private practice to begin with. Why we were forced to have coffee meet ups with my busy schedule, being the Chief of Surgeon now; the title made my heart leap on its own content. The brunette gave a silent nod as she stepped outside as he held the door for them both.
Not that Billie didn’t see Gigi all the time, I spent Sundays at the house, we had little tea parties, and if Conrad ever had to work late I’d be the one he called to help him. We were family; Nic’s absence was heavy in our hearts; but I knew Nic, she would never want him to give up on his dreams, and it sounded like he was settling for what worked best for Gigi. I could tell with the way he spoke regarding the private Practice. A hand extended out to pat his forearm touch lingered briefly.
“ It wasn’t all Bell.” Lips pulled together in amusement. “ At my Tea Parties with GiGi I may not have mentions all the rainbow fish books she adores on full display, along with the astronomy books I know she’d love. Cause she’s a astronaut in the making, Hate to break it to you.” A laugh escaped her lips as she dropped her hand before turning serious as our walkway path inched closer to Chastian. “ I think you’re settling for her benefit. And Nic wouldn’t want that for you or her. Talk to Kit explain you’ll come back but shorten hours only work morning shifts unless emergency came up. That you’re a devoted dad, but you do desire to return. But on your terms.” Conrad was a big part of our team; something told me Kit would give him whatever he wanted if it meant Conrad was a doctor had Chastian again.
Just my two cents.

Possibly Doing a "Begins" Series
So, I've kind of been obsessing over 9-1-1/9-1-1: Lone Star lately and think that it would be cool to do a "Begins" Series with characters from One Chicago and maybe The Resident, by using the information that we have gotten from the shows about them (after I finish all my other WIPs, but I actually wanna have them written ahead of time instead of writing as I go). I have an idea of how I want some of them to go, others are undecided as of right now and some I'm debating if I should do one for said character. But if you want to see a particular moment for a character that was canonically mentioned (ie Mouch and his dad sending letters when he was a child) let me know. (Also, the order of the characters listed have nothing to do with the potential order that they get done. The Chicago Shows are in the order of my character charts and The Resident Characters are in the order that I pulled their names from fandom Wiki).

Sadly, my firepit plan has already hit a snag. Damn you feline asthma! Nevertheless, the destruction of the Quintuple Club continues with 2017 Topps. If you saw the 2018 Edition, you are going to see some familiar faces here. Mark Reynolds, Brandon Belt, and Nate Jones are all back for a second burn.
The team most represented in this lot is the Toronto Blue Jays. I know the Mariners have three cards as well, but I’m throwing in Randal Grichuk (pictured on the Cardinals) as well because he’d become a Blue Jay right after the 2017 season.
But don’t you fret Mariners fans, Nori Aoki brought a special something to this particular burn. So far with the Quintuple Club, there has been no player with more than five cards in my duplicate pile. Mr. Aoki had fucking eight. And that number is only so low because I made sure to get rid of quite a few when I donated some grab bags for a charity yard sale.
2017′s offering wasn’t as large as 2018′s, but I’m sure I’ll add more as per the usual I still haven’t completed 2017 Topps here in 2019. Either way, here is the full burn list.
